Mokum | Top 10 plain textiles

Discover our Design Director's favourite plains

As much as we love pattern, plain fabrics create an essential foundation for cohesive living spaces and work just as well on their own as when layered with coordinating prints and textures.

From soft sheers to textured weaves and high-performance fabrics with superior durability, our range of plain textiles are available in many different colours, compositions, and constructions, providing ample choices for both residential and commercial applications.

For your inspiration, we’ve asked Stephanie Moffitt, Mokum Design Director, to compile a list of her favourite drapery and upholstery plains – in no particular order!

Satori Stonewash

This sumptuous and energetic, wide-width stonewashed linen, comes in a comprehensive palette of neutrals and earthen dusty tones. Satori Stonewash is woven in 100% linen, expertly stonewashed, then softly tumbled to create its perfectly dynamic handle. Named after the Japanese Buddhist term for enlightenment, Satori Stonewash is suitable for drapery application, top of bed and light duty upholstery, a Mokum classic.

Cestino

Cestino is a semi sheer drapery with an open weave construction, which fashions a modern, natural looking window treatment. Utilising a leno weave structure to create stability, Cestino is created from two warp yarns twisting and looping around the weft yarn, which produces a strong yet sheer fabric. Woven in a predominately synthetic composition, with the addition of cotton and linen, adding both softness and texture. Cestino is coloured in an earthen palette of neutral colours and dusted desert tones.

Lino

Italian for linen, Lino is a 100% linen wide-width sheer with a divine softly tumbled handle. The multi-coloured yarn construction mixes sophisticated colour combinations harnessing dusty hues within its thoughtful and comprehensive colour palette.

Adobe

Named after the sun-dried mud brick walls of O’Keeffe’s Ghost Ranch home. Adobe is a contemporary plain drapery with an earthy and raw texture in keeping with the natural rustic theme of the collection. The colour palette also reflects the sun bleached, sand filled desert, with dusted light naturals, agave greens, earthen neutrals, and rust tones. Adobe is enhanced by the addition of linen fibre, producing a natural weathered aesthetic, along with its tumbled finishing, creating a sublimely soft handle for this predominantly synthetic cloth.

Kanso Stonewash

In Japanese culture, Kanso translates to simplicity or purity and aligns perfectly with the ethos of modern architecture and contemporary interior design. A new addition to our growing stable of wide-width linens, Kanso Stonewash is a semi sheer with rhythmic tactility and a gorgeous soft tumbled finish. An extensive palette featuring subdued shades of sky blue, willow green and ink sit alongside fashion driven pinks, corals and a bold citrus yellow. The palette is balanced by an extensive offering of warm and cool neutrals in both soft and deeper tones.

Pure

Pure epitomises beauty in simplicity and speaks to the philosophy of Ikigai. Woven in Italy, this refined and streamlined upholstery features a Teflon finish making Pure the perfect luxury plain in which to layer the rest of the collection on. Six new colours have been added to our highly successful upholstery plain, extending Pure’s palette to eleven colourways.

Grande Boucle

Our Grande Boucle textile is influenced by our current nostalgia for the 1970s and as its name suggests is a weighty and dimensional boucle upholstery. Woven in Italy, in a mix of natural and synthetic fibres, Grande Boucle has been expertly finished creating a soft and luxurious handle and tailored finish. The light acyclic backing adds further weight and prevents movement on loose cushions. Grande Boucle has been coloured in three perfect neutrals and is part of our forthcoming Catherine Martin for Mokum collection inspired by her current film project.

Pueblo

Pueblo is our substantial new plain upholstery, whose name is derived from traditional Adobe buildings. Woven in a blend of natural and synthetic fibres, this robust, washable upholstery has been expertly tumbled giving it a relaxed handle and dusted palette. Pueblo has been custom coloured in an expansive palette, ranging from pure neutrals, desert infused tones, mineral based blues and greens, through to deep earth-based browns and charcoals. The heavily textured cloth and earth infused palette reflects the dry surfaces and parched tones of New Mexico.

Bespoke

Our divine textured velvet was inspired by a desire to create the ultimate luxury velvet , one with both a linen velvet aesthetic and a soft and sumptuous handle. Bespoke was carefully constructed with a viscose pile creating a lustrous, plush finish and antiqued surface. Custom dyed to deliver an extensive, fashion forward palette; Bespoke offers an array of beautiful neutrals and opulent theatrical tones. The palette includes Catherine Martin’s signature red, in honour of Bazmark’s famed Red Velvet Trilogy: Strictly Ballroom, Romeo and Juliet and Moulin Rouge.

Strata

Named after rocky landscapes, this highly tactile upholstery is woven in Italy in both tonal and contrasting colour combinations. With a focus on the products core purpose, Strata is highly durable, being suitable for commercial upholstery whilst maintaining stunning residential appeal.
